OpenAI's New Frontier: GPT-4 Turbo Packs A Punch With Expanded Memory And Reduced Costs

In a groundbreaking revelation, artificial intelligence research organization OpenAI launched a significant upgrade to its GPT-4 language model, aptly named GPT-4 Turbo, at its inaugural developer event, DevDay.

What Happened: According to a report by Ars Technica, OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, unveiled the new GPT-4 Turbo at the San Francisco event held on Monday. 

The enhanced model touts a larger memory, lower cost, and more recent knowledge.

Altman disclosed that GPT-4 Turbo can process approximately 96,000 words at once, a substantial increase from the prior 8,000-token context window. 

The model also integrates knowledge of events up until April 2023, marking it as the most recent language model from OpenAI.

Additionally, Altman announced a reduction in the cost of using GPT-4 Turbo as an API, with it being one-third cheaper than GPT-4 for input tokens and half the price for output tokens. 

Moreover, OpenAI is doubling the tokens-per-minute limit for all paying GPT-4 customers.
